Each year NOSAMS hosts several undergraduate and graduate
students, post-doctoral associates
or Summer Student Fellows through the Academic
Programs office of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Beginning in 2006, NOSAMS will also award two NSF-supported
internships to qualifying graduate students (see Graduate
Student Internship).
Investigators and students who want to use radiocarbon analysis
as an important tool in thier work come to NOSAMS for use
of our facilities and to train with our scientific and technical
staff. Often these collaborations lead to new methods and
interesting new ways to use the radiocarbon isotope in carbon
studies. Some examples of these involved what we call Small
Sample Compound Specific Radiocarbon Analysis, or CSRC, to
study
seawater DOC
pigments
black carbon
lipid extracts, diatom dating
petroleum persistence
sterols in sediments
alkenones from sediments
